Weird transfer problem (device not attached)

I have a NETMD (MZ-N505). It's worked fine for the past 3 years but now, when I'm transferring songs (either with Simple Burner, SonicStage or RealPlayer), it does a sort of sharp sound when it's about to finish the first transfer and then the computer says the device is not attached. I unplug and plug the USB cable again and the device is recognised but that doesn't help since the problem will start again when I try transferring. Anybody had this? Thanks for your time.

Sorry, the problem is really twofold. The firts one was simple: there was a problem with the transformer and the unit was running on batteries alone. But once this was solved, the thing is that the transfer are slow and tend to freeze, and the songs are full of funny noises that sound like some rapper has been playing turntables on all songs. Thanks again for your patience.

End of my own silly thread. Maybe useful to someone for reference, who knows.

Silly Problem nº 1: always make sure that your unit is connected to the mains and that polarity is correct. According to experience Sony units can take wrong polarities for an incredible amount of time, but it can seriously damage the unit.

Silly problem nº 2: In case there are what seem to be transfer problem, it is useful to see whether the problem is the actual transfer or the previous conversion to ATRAC. This can easily be done by converting before transfer. It can also be easily seen if the problem is with any format or, perhaps, just mp3. In the latter case, one cause can be ffdshow. Go to Programs, ffdshow, audio fileter configuartion and disable the MP3 filter.

Conclusion nº1: don't post before making sure that you can fix the problem just by doing some search on the forums.

Conclusion nº 2: don't post in the wrong forum. This is really a software problem.
